It's useful especially to have the system/program files on one drive, PrPro's cache & media cache database on another, and media on a third. if everything is on one drive, you've got a potentially massive traffic jam getting everything read into the CPU and other subsystems. But "reading" media files is intensive CPU operation for de-encoding. it creates several major file systems that it constantly reads/writes to/from, besides the media files that are primarily a read-only operation. PrPro uses a ton or resources during playback.
